Roxsy is a California-based Venezuelan author-illustrator who loves pine trees and poetry. She grew up in a tiny town called Merida, where she used to sneak into her Abuelo’s poetry reading group. Every new word she learned filled her heart with joy and wonder. That’s why she studied journalism and fell in love with libraries.
Roxsy loves working in traditional and digital mediums alike. Watercolor, gouache, and acrylics are her favorite techniques. She finds joy in mixing paint and watching the pigments flow on the paper. Her creative muse is rooted in nostalgic childhood memories, namely vibrant trips to the local farmer’s markets with her family, where she absorbed its vibrant colors and textures that continue to shape her artistic vision.
Roxsy’s accolades include winning a Portfolio Showcase at SCBWI San Diego and receiving the Highlights Foundation Latinx Storytellers Scholarship (2022). She has also been awarded placement in two phenomenal mentorships — with the Latinx in Publishing Writers Mentorship Program in 2023, and the We Need Diverse Books mentorship program in 2024! Roxsy also runs a regular book review of Latinx publications for the LA Times’ De Los section and a column for CalóNews.
Passionate about diversity, Roxsy would love to illustrate heartfelt stories that explore inclusion, mental health, body positivity, and cultural identity. She also loves books that celebrate the lives of people who paved the way for civil/social rights.
At the core of her creative journey is the unshakable belief in the transformative power of children’s literature, an artistic medium she views as a beacon of empathy, compassion, and hope, even amidst life’s challenges.
You can find her doodling with watercolors and pencils or checking out too many books at her local library. Follow Roxsy on social media @roxsy_lin and visit her online at https://roxsylin.com/.
