Nyrryl Cadiz is a Filipino illustrator and the recent Grand Prize Winner of the SCBWI Summer 2022 Portfolio Showcase and the 2022 Ezra Jack Keats Showcase Prize, awarded to a promising BIPOC illustrator. She loves to create dynamic and joyful pieces, taking inspiration from Filipino folk art, and using vibrant colors and texture that mimics traditional pencils and crayons. Nyrryl prefers to illustrate fun and whimsical stories, especially featuring Filipino culture. She is always on the lookout for projects with strong, eccentric leads.
Nyrryl has loved art since she was a child, but without artist role models in her small town, never thought to pursue it as a career. Before discovering children’s illustration, she studied Civil Engineering in college. After graduation, she decided to focus her career on illustration. She has since supplemented her art skills at the School of Visual Storytelling and has continued to develop her style and craft under strong mentorship from teachers and creative support of fellow students.
Nyrryl is currently looking to illustrate children’s picture books and middle grade projects. She has been working professionally since 2019 and her clients include HarperCollins, Pearsons, Igloo Books, York Press, Ladybug Magazine, Clubhouse Jr., and Mascot Books.
