Christine Almeda

Christine Almeda is a Filipina-American freelance illustrator. She graduated from Montclair State University earning a BFA and an Award for Excellence in Animation & Illustration, focusing on character design and children’s media.

Christine’s debut picture book Lolo’s Sari-Sari Store by Sophia N. Lee (Atheneum/S&S) was named a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year. She also illustrated Box of Dreams by Faith Kazmi and Dreaming of a Quinceañera by Yamille Saied Mendez coming in April 2025.  Christine first launched into children’s books illustration with Sarai and the Meaning of Awesome chapter book series by Sarai Gonzalez and Monica Brown (Scholastic), followed by Phoebe G. Green series by Veera Hiranandani (Penguin), The BabySitters Club “Little Sisters” series (Scholastic) in conjunction with the Netflix series, and middle grade novel Maya and the Robot by Eve Ewing (Penguin/Kokila). Christine also enjoys illustrating book covers including Tanya Guerrero’s How To Make Friends with the Sea, Amy Spalding’s We Used To Be Friends, Kristiana Khakauwila’s Clairboyance and The Dare Sisters by Jessica M. Rinker. She is widely know for her fan art such as Turning Red Mei studying and listening to 4town beats.

As a second-generation immigrant, Christine finds inspiration from her family’s Filipino heritage and hard work. Through her character design, Christine works sketch by sketch in multimedia to bring characters and communities to life. She believes in the power of storytelling and heartfelt creation, and hopes to bring more visibility to characters of color in her work. Christine lives in Texas.
